DR. CARL P. SCHAFFNER, Founder

Dr. Schaffner brought more than fifty (50) years' experience in the Biotechnology and Microbiology fields to Karykion.  He was a Professor of Microbial Chemistry at the Waksman Institute of Microbiology at Rutgers since 1972.  Dr. Schaffner attained a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Columbia University and a Doctor of Philosophy in Biochemistry from the University of Illinois.  He was a member of the American Chemical Society, The British Chemical Society, and The American Association for the Advancement of Science, The American Society of Microbiology, The Society of Biological Chemists and The Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine.  Dr. Schaffner was awarded the Presidential Award of Merit from the Republic of the Philippines and was named an honorary fellow of the Philippine Society for Microbiology and Infectious Diseases in 1975.  In 1998, Dr. Schaffner received the Waksman Award for microbiology from The Theobald Smith Society.  He was also awarded the David Gottlieb Award in microbiology.  Dr. Schaffner passed away in December 2012.  The corporation is in the process of selecting a successor to continue the scientific leadership of the company, from our existing shareholders and colleagues with chemical and engineering backgrounds.

WILLIAM K. GRIESINGER, President & CEO

Mr. Griesinger has a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Pennsylvania State University and completed graduate studies in finance at Northeastern University.  He was previously the Chairman and Chief Executive of the Geneva Pharmaceuticals Subsidiary of CIBA-GEIGY now Novartis Corporation.  Prior responsibilities of Mr. Griesinger included Vice President and Director of Alza Corporation and various senior engineering management positions with CIBA-GEIGY.  Mr. Griesinger currently serves as Chairman and CFO of Multiforce Systems Corporation, Princeton, New Jersey.

JOSEPH T. KURIGER, Vice President & CFO

Mr. Kuriger has over twenty-six (26) years of progressive financial, banking, treasury, and capital market experience in finance, capital management, balance sheet management, treasury, risk management and operations.  He most recently completely a project for a consulting arm of Apollo Management Group.  He also served as a contractor to the FDIC, engaged to assist with bank closures and subsequent asset management.  Prior responsibilities of Mr. Kuriger included serving as a Senior Vice President of Luminent Mortgage Capital, Inc., an $8 billion asset management firm, thirteen (13) years in banking and risk management, and experience working in a public accounting firm.  Mr. Kuriger has a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and a Masters of Business Administration in Finance, both from Temple University.

DENNIS W. WALSH, Vice President of Operations

Mr. Walsh has over thirty (30) years of experience in all aspects of operations.  As Vice President of Operations for "PDI," a global leader in the manufacturer of pre-moistened wipes primarily for the health care industry, he was responsible for production, engineering, maintenance, planning warehousing, distribution and safety/training.  Prior experiences include Vice President of Operations for Advance Distribution Systems, Inc., and Vice President of Operations for Medicia Corp., a manufacturer of cosmetic products such as creams, lotions, skin care, etc.  Mr. Walsh attended the General Motors Institute of Technology (Kettering University), and holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering.
